SOUTH FACE TREK

4 days trek and 4,050 m / 13,290 ft maximum altitude

ITINERARY


Day 1 > Mendoza
Pick up at the airport if needed (optional). Your guide will check your gear and assist you with the park’s trekking permit procedures. The program does not include hotel and meals in Mendoza.

Day 2 > Mendoza – Horcones – Hike to Confluencia Camp (Transfer 3 hs + Trek 3-4 hs / 3.390 m)
Private transfer from Mendoza to our warehouse in Penitentes. (there are lockers and storage place available for our guests). You can have coffee and snacks while the guides get the mule loads ready. Another 15 minutes ride takes the team to Horcones. This is the trailhead and also where the Park rangers will check permits. A scenic hike (carrying only a daypack) leads to Confluencia, the first camp of the Horcones Valley routes. / 3-4 hs

Day 3 > Confluencia – South Face viewpoint (Pl. Francia / 6-7 hs / 4,050 m)
After breakfast we hike with light backpacks up the Horcones debris-covered glacier. As we gain altitude we get to see Aconcagua’s South Face, Mt. Almacenes, Mt. Mirador and other surrounding peaks. We reach a viewpoint at 4,050m, where we have lunch and spend some time admiring the place. Then we retrace our steps to Confluencia camp. Big dinner to recover energies. / 6-7 hs

Day 4 > Confluencia – Horcones – Mendoza (3 hs hike + 3 hs transfer)
We say farewell to the leading guide and the summit-bound group, and head back to the trailhead (2 to 3 hours) with a guide. We meet the transfer there and ride to Mendoza, where we arrive at about 4-5 PM. End of the program.

NOTE (*): Please note that the program begins in Mendoza the day before the hike, in order to have time to check your gear and obtain the trekking permit. Please schedule your arrival accordingly.

Included in the cost:

  • Private transfers (Mendoza / Trailhead / Mendoza).
  • Pack mules from the trailhead to BC and back.
  • Full board during the hike.
  • Base camp service: full board, dining tents, sleeping tents, bathroom.
  • Free internet service is available for our guests at all our campsites. Permanent communication (VHF).
  • World class, English speaking mountain guides, certified by Mt. Aconcagua State Park.
  • Gear check and assistance with climbing permit procedures.

Not included in the cost:

  • Cost of the trekking permit to enter Mt Aconcagua State Park.
  • Lodging in Mendoza.
  • Meals and beverages in Mendoza and Penitentes.
  • Any cost incurred by the climber if she or he leaves the trip early (such as mules, transfers, guide, etc). We strongly recommend all participants to buy a trip cancelation insurance.
  • Personal gear, room service, laundry, beverages, phone communication, ground or air evacuations, hospitalization or medication of any kind, liability insurance, any other service not mentioned in this above.
